What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy healing system originally formed in Japan in the 1920s. The word ‘Reiki’ applies to both the energy that we call Reiki and The System of Reiki developed by Mikao Usui that enables us to harness this energy. The most common translation from, the Japanese Kanji is ‘Rei’ meaning the essence of spirit or source, and ‘Ki’ meaning universal life force energy. This universal energy is something that we are all born with and capable of harnessing to harmonise our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state of being. In more basic terms it’s a system of natural healing that’s easily accessible and beneficial to us all. As it isn’t based on any belief, faith or suggestion, ultimately Reiki is a path of discovery that’s available to everyone.

Why do we need Reiki?

As humans, we are constantly exposed to stress and mental or emotional hardship affecting our mood, mental stability and physical health. Emotions are energy in motion, a powerful force that must be released, accepted or transformed. If negative emotions are contained or withheld in our body the energy stops from moving, it creates a blockage that ultimately leads to an unhealthy state of body and mind. Stress is the most common factor that slows down our natural energy flow within our bodies. Reiki therapy enables us to pinpoint this stored up emotion or energy block and begin to work on releasing it.

In many ways, our physical bodies are built to heal themselves. When using Reiki, we plug into our own energy system to stimulate our bodies to begin healing just as they naturally know how to, transforming ourselves back into a state of wholeness and good health.

How does Reiki work?

As Reiki is a form of energy transference, it works by entering the body like a heatwave to stimulate the healing process. Reiki healing requires a practitioner to emit electromagnetic or bio-magnetic energy from their hands. This bio-magnetic energy has been shown to induce current flows in the tissues and cells of the person receiving the treatment. The frequencies of the energy emitted vary from one moment to the next; but mainly appear to correspond to those that medical researchers have identified as being the optimum frequencies for stimulating the healing process in tissues, cells, bones and other body parts. No only aiding our physical bodies, these frequencies work to balance our spiritual, emotional and mental wellbeing as profoundly. Imagine it as a ray of warm sunlight radiating from a practitioner’s hands aimed at the blocked part of your body, releasing its tension and helping to restore its balance.
